Thicc Sky Ambient Jam

Ambient Jam hosted monthly at the Camelford Arms on Camelford Street in Kemptown.
A mix of electronic and acoustic instruments, mixing organic and synthesised stuff.

A pleasant contrast to Brighton's thriving jazz/groove jam scene, this one is less about the chops and edge, and more about the atmosphere and collaborative arrangement.

As such we run a no solos rule, though toplines are permitted! Sometimes a fine line to tread but we do our best and the results are usually pretty lovely :)

How does it run?
The houseband will do a short set at the beginning of the night to set the tone, then we open the floor up to attendees to join in.

Is there a list?
No it's quite informal.

Anything to look out for?
We aim to keep the music dynamic and diverse, as such its encouraged to have instuments drop out or not even participate in some jams (e.g. have one without any drums, or without any guitar)

We encourate musicians to just put the instrument down when leaving the stand rather than passing it straight to another so that we get a wider range of lineups.

One jam that went really had a whole segment that was just 2 guitars improvising chords around each other for a few minutes before the rest of the band started coming in.

We encourage this attitude as it makes for a more engaging experience for listeners in the room. If the same 2 chords have been going around for ages with no one dropping in or out then something has gone wrong!

That all sounds a bit rules based and prescriptive but in practice it works out really nicely in the room and the night boasts a social, welcoming and supportive atmosphere. We set up a few limitations to prime the soil and then see what music grows out of it.
